FOCUSED SHOCKWAVE THERAPY

A NON-INVASIVE ADD-ON SERVICE FOR STUBBORN TENDON, FASCIA, AND SOFT-TISSUE PAIN.

Focused shockwave therapy uses targeted acoustic energy to stimulate the body’s healing response in irritated or slow-healing tissue. It is often used when pain has lingered despite rest, stretching, exercise, or other conservative care. At Makos Chiropractic, shockwave therapy is offered as an add-on service when it is a good fit for your condition. The goal is to help reduce pain, improve function, and support healing so you can get back to normal activity with less discomfort. Patients choose ESWT because it is non-invasive, requires no anesthesia, no surgery, short visits, minimal downtime, and can be added easily to their current treatment plans.

WHAT IT MAY HELP WITH

  - Plantar fasciitis or heel pain
- Tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow

    - Shoulder tendon pain
  - Patellar tendon or knee overuse pain
  - Hip tendon pain

- Achilles tendon pain
  - Shin splints
  - Trigger points and myofascial pain
  - Other chronic soft-tissue complaints that are not getting better with typical treatments.

WHAT IT FEELS LIKE

During treatment, a handheld applicator is placed over the problem area, and delivers a series of focused pulses.

Some patients describe it as pressure, tapping, or a quick snapping sensation.

Because the treatment targets irritated tissue, some areas may feel more sensitive than others, but the intensity will be adjusted to your individual tolerance.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT

Most visits are short, and there is little to no downtime afterward. Some people notice relief quickly, while others improve more gradually over a series of treatments. Mild soreness after treatment can happen, especially in the first day or two.

The number of visits recommended depends on the area being treated, how long the problem has been present, and how your body responds. Many patients do best with a series of 4-6 treatments spaced 4-7 days apart, along with graded loading and rehab exercises when appropriate.
